A running club born in the borough appeared on BBC Breakfast as it continues to go from strength to strength into its eighth year.

MileShyClub chief executive Jane Dennison appeared on the programme alongside BBC Radio 2 presenter Jo Whiley on April 18.

Born in Sale but with offshoots across the borough as well as in the boroughs of Manchester and Salford, the running club is at the forefront of the relaunch of Couch to 5K app, for which the DJ is one of the voices. MileShyClub members are in a video relaunching the Couch to 5K app with fresh features like an option to go beyond 5K for the first time.

Ms Dennison and Ms Whiley told BBC Breakfast presenters Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty about their involvement in the app.

@mileshyclub THE SECRET IS OUT! MileShyClub were asked to take part in the brand new relaunch of the NHS Couch To 5K app - and here’s the advert filled with our very own MileShy superstars! Jane, Mrs MileShy herself, appeared on Radio 5Live AND on the BBC Breakfast Couch with Jo Whiley this morning to talk about running and Couch To 5K. But the fun didn’t stop there! Jane went out into Blue Peter Gardens to lead a group of excited MileShyers, and Jo Whiley and Mike Bushell, on a Couch To 5K run/walk session around Media City! Ms Dennison said: "I started running as an adult. The app was not around but I wish it was around because it was so hard. Everyone else makes it looks so easy so it is really, really scary.

"Couch to 5K is time-based so you take it at your pace and there is no pressure. Whether you are a marathon runner or a complete beginner the first step out of the door is the hardest."

Ms Whiley said: "I am not a runner and on sports day I used to dread it. It does not matter if you are not a runner, this is the app for you.

"It is free, it is a BBC Sport and NHS initiative and it is a really, really wonderful thing. It is one of the best things I've done in my career."

MileShyClub has clubs in Altrincham, Partington, Sale, Salford, Stretford, Swinton, Worsley, Wythenshawe, Old Trafford and the Trafford Centre and there are more clubs to come this year.
