As the Christmas Season draws to an end, Urmston Cricket Club are already looking towards the start of the 2024 season and are making many preparations.

Urmston Cricket Club plays in the Cheshire County Cricket League, with their First Team in the First Division. The club runs two other Saturday Teams as well as a two Senior teams on a Sunday. The club also runs many junior teams from Under 9s to Under 18s throughout the season.

Both the junior and senior teams are returning to training at the beginning of February. The senior sessions will take place at Old Trafford’s indoor training facility on Sunday evenings. These training sessions are open to all players at Urmston Cricket Club  who are currently playing senior cricket, however new players with previous cricket experience are more than welcome.

The first team are strengthening their squad from last season with already having signed three new players: Matthew Senior from Greenmount CC, Jamie Cotton from Stretford CC and Sam Smith from Hale Barns CC.

Alongside this, Urmston CC are also looking at the potential to host another Overseas Cricketer. They have hosted cricketers from Australia over the past few years yet were unable to do so in the 2020 and 2021 seasons due to Covid restrictions. An Overseas Cricketer benefits the club in numerous ways, such as strengthening the First Team and acting as a role model to junior players.

Former Club Chair and current Junior Chair Rob Arnold shared his  excitement for the upcoming season telling me they are 'really looking forward to the next season with hopes for success across both the Junior and Senior levels.’
